
Meet Krystal
Elder Krystal Berry, a native of Southampton County, Virginia, was nurtured in the faith at Capron (Kay-Prun) Community Church of God in Christ. She pursued higher education by earning a Bachelor of Arts in English from Virginia State University in 2007. After relocating to Houston, Texas, she earned a Master of Arts in English, specializing in 20th- century American poetry and Graveyard Verse, from Texas Southern University in 2009. In May 2023, she completed a Master of Theological Studies at George W. Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University and, most recently, graduated with the Master of Theology degree in Old Testament Theological Interpretation, with a focus on Literary Archeology and Historical Reconstructionism from Columbia Theological Seminary in May 2026.
Krystal has dedicated her life to serving in the church, holding various significant roles. She served as choir director, director of women’s ministry, executive director of ministries, ministerial associate for pastoral care and program development, pastoral associate, and executive research assistant to the pastor during her time in Houston.
Krystal’s extensive professional background in education spans over 12 years of secondary and collegiate education and has prepared her for diverse roles in academia and administration. She has held positions as a visiting instructor of English, secondary English educator, and college and career readiness administrator.
A student of the Word, the church, and the academy, Krystal will begin doctoral studies at the intersection of Homiletics and Old Testament in 2027. In addition to her studies, she is an itinerant minister of the Gospel, an intellectual activist, she is the proprietor of Salt and Script Consulting the self-published author of Pout or Prepare: AMillennial, Black Woman’s Journey to Ministry in the Deep South, a contributor to the newly publishedHip-Hop Theology: Only the Lover Raps, and serves as the Associate Director of Black Church Studies at Duke University Divinity School, in Durham, NC.
Krystal is a member of and actively involved in numerous organizations that address diverse needs of communities both locally and internationally, and she is a proud member of Truth Tabernacle Church in Rocky Mount, NC, under the leadership of Drs. Haywood S. and Wanda Frazier Parker. Through her dedicated service, she has come to understand that the true richness of her life stems from an unconditional love for humanity, reflecting a Godly connection. Her life is a consistent reminder that when you take care of God’s name, God will take care of yours!
